Engagement Shoot
So I have been really nervous about this engagement photosession. For one thing, I wanted to get props but of course, yap style, I didn’t get around to doing it. For another, we got to bed at some ungodly hour in the morning and then woke up at another ungodly hour in the morning and had to double back twice for the outfits we accidentally left behind (I know, we are real geniuses!) and the Boy’s wallet that he left behind. We really do not do well with mornings. Called Lara to tell her we were on our way and in no circumstance was another morning appointment to be booked. To add salt to the wound she was exceedingly chipper. Morning people annoy me. Then we got lost on Dallas Tollway, paid like $75 dollars in change (ok, more like $5 but still insane). They did not factor that in our wedding budget for sure.
I was very specific about what I wanted and did not want in my engagement photos:
No:
- botanical gardens
- pretty sundresses
- cheesy photoshots
- wildflower field
Yes:
- vintage chic
- pencil skirts, narrow sheath dresses
- fashion spread inspired shots
How many times in a lifetime does one get to dress up and have your photos professionally taken? Might as well make a production out of it.
We (I mean me) ended up having so much fun at our engagement shoot. It was like playing dress up (I know I am not the only girl who pretended she was a model and practiced her pout in the bathroom mirror growing up). We did some traditional shots which was often followed by me rolling my eyes and Tracy going “I know it’s traditional”. Tracy, our photographer, was a little quiet initially and I was thinking “oh Lord, Lara, you got me someone without a sense of humor”. Turns out he was great fun and he endured our goofiness with great sport.
The hangers were a little hot. My makeup felt like it was dripping off my face. Sexy. He kept wanting me to make serious faces which is a harder feat than you think with the Boy standing behind Tracy making funny faces. We had a couple of shots of us kissing. One of which was followed by Tracy going, “Guys, you can stop kissing now. Really.” What? He wanted it to look natural!
I think we are going to have some amazing shots. I am really excited now about how they are going to turn out. If there are any Dallas brides out there who want something out of the ordinary, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum is amazing.
*Update: Just heard from Tracy and our engagement pictures should be done this weekend. Cannot wait! Will feature them as soon as humanly possible. If I look good, of course. I usually don’t look good in pictures.
